Jane Ellen Burke arrived in Taos in 1976 taking a job as the arts administrator for the Taos Art Association. Jane had completed three years of art studies at the University of Oklahoma with an emphasis in metal design and resumed classes in printmaking at University of New Mexico, Taos from 2001-2020. Her interest in drawing was sparked by the soft shapes of adobe buildings and how the weight of the mud bricks shaped the doorways and windows of the constructions over time. Light also caught her attention as she continued the explorations of her environment. An introduction to lake and ocean sailing started a 15-year study of water using line to capture its image. Abstraction has been her main way of expression and drawing continues as a daily practice.
